In this past month, the majority of my artwork has consisted of drawing from observation. I did a still life on altered paper, I did blind contour, and now I am drawing from a photograph (more just for fun). These exercises really have helped me observe the world around me and develop the skill of drawing from life. I finished the still life on altered paper this month which allowed me to create original art for my breadth portfolio. After, I moved on to the blind contour exercises (to me this felt a lot like taking a risk, because it was very risky and stressful to me). Now I am working on not so much of a breadth piece, but a little present for my mother. My grandmother painted before she died, and one of her paintings was given to someone else. I am attempting to recreate the piece to give my mother on Christmas. While is it a fun little project, it is also teaching me how to solve problems and develop skills. I am improving in my color and painting mixing skills because I need to create colors that are not already available. It is really pushing me to look at the color undertones and learn how to create different shades and vibrancies.
