This month I worked on two main projects—an additional breadth project and my concentration ideas. I started the month off with my first concentration piece for the boundaries assignment. The image depicts a runner crosses the finish line and the different feelings and emotions finishing results in. The image is not my favorite, and I hope to recreate it again when I have more time. I took a risk by attempting an art piece I had never done before, and now I am going to solve the problem of it not looking the way I want it to by trying again. For my other project, I began a breadth piece that combined acrylic painting with embroidery. I started by using acrylic paint to paint an ocean on a canvas. At first I did not know what I wanted to do in the middle of the canvas, but after collaborating with the class during a critic, I decided to add an embroidered boat in the middle. Because I was a little rusty with embroidery, I decided to develop the skill a bit first, and practiced the boat on a sewing hoop. I completed the first boat, but I thought it looked a little flat. I solved this problem by finding different colors of thread to make the boat a bit more lifelike. I am almost finished with my second practice, and I hope I can start on the actual soon.
