In March I really focused in on the one project I have been working on, which is the boat on the water. The project has taken quite a bit of time, but it has really helped me fully develop the embroidery skill because I practice it everyday. I would definitely consider this project as a risk I took because I had no clue how it would turn out and if I could even do it, and it has been okay so far. Additionally, I was able to collaborate with others during critiques and they really helped me figure out where I want to take my artwork. Next month I am going to focus even more on my concentration and hopefully get half of my AP pieces done. For now I just continue to stitch away..

This month I worked on two main projects—an additional breadth project and my concentration ideas. I started the month off with my first concentration piece for the boundaries assignment. The image depicts a runner crosses the finish line and the different feelings and emotions finishing results in. The image is not my favorite, and I hope to recreate it again when I have more time. I took a risk by attempting an art piece I had never done before, and now I am going to solve the problem of it not looking the way I want it to by trying again. For my other project, I began a breadth piece that combined acrylic painting with embroidery. I started by using acrylic paint to paint an ocean on a canvas. At first I did not know what I wanted to do in the middle of the canvas, but after collaborating with the class during a critic, I decided to add an embroidered boat in the middle. Because I was a little rusty with embroidery, I decided to develop the skill a bit first, and practiced the boat on a sewing hoop. I completed the first boat, but I thought it looked a little flat. I solved this problem by finding different colors of thread to make the boat a bit more lifelike. I am almost finished with my second practice, and I hope I can start on the actual soon. For the month of January I completed the "Boundaries" assignment and I planned further for my concentration. When I first heard of the "Boundaries" project, I thought of a way in which I could combine the assignment with my concentration statement. By doing this, I solved the problem of not having started any concentration pieces, and I was able to create artwork. This project also pushed me to develop the skill of using Photoshop. I have had Photoshop on my computer for two years now, but I have never learned how to use it. By completing this project, I learned how to operate the application I never could. This project also required me to take some risks. I had never done anything like this before, and I was afraid I was not going to get it done by the deadline. Because of this, I decided to start another piece just in case I couldn't pull it off. I painted a light vs. dark dress piece lined with jewels and gems. I preferred my original idea much more, so I was very happy when I was able to get it done. I ended up editing two different photographs and now I just have to decide which one I like more. This project really kickstarted my concentration and I am excited to continue creating my own original art in the next few months. December was a fun month for me because I created several new pieces and tried a different style of art that I really ended up liking. I saw an image online with some red flowers and I decided to create a cartoonish style painting with flowers and greenery with a colorful background. With this piece I was able to take some risks and create my own original art. I really liked the style of the painting, so I decided to stick with the style for some other pieces. Next I used the same type of background to create a little painting of some flower silhouettes. I also have always wanted to practice calligraphy, so I used the words in the center to try and develop the skill (I don’t think I have really grasped it yet). I was able to collaborate with others during the critique this month. I had started another painting with the similar background style but I was not sure of what to put in the foreground. I collaborated with others and they helped me choose the direction I wanted to take. I am still working on the piece now. Next month I will be starting some concentration images, so I won’t be doing as many paintings, but the last month has been fun. This month, I mostly painted with acrylic paints. I continue to the develop the skill of drawing landscapes and seascapes. After finishing the recreation piece of my grandmother’s painting, I created my own original art and tried a new seascape of my own. It does not look as nice as the other one, but I am still working on it. |
